Fabulous weekend! Karen came to visit and shop. We ate too much, drank too much and spent too much. On Friday I got the apartment stuff done, and then we drove down to Woodbridge & dropped off her Janome. Then we headed off to G-Street for some serious fabric shopping. My skills push me towards the "clearance" and remenet section, but I found a ton of stuff I liked and have a number of projects to work on. In fact, I put together 2 pieces yesterday and made a houndstooth skirt for about $12. Karen dropped some serious cash and got some serious stash. I know she's ready to sew!
On Saturday, we drove up to Michaels Fabrics in Baltimore. OMG!! I didn't know stuff like that existed! I was chicken and only spent a couple of bucks on some clearance Italian wool, but Karen got some drop dead pieces! Valentino, Chanel, Linden... WOW! Cool place, nicest people in the world, can't wait to go back. Going to do some major skill honing so I won't be so afraid of his stuff next time.
On the way back we stopped at the inner-harbor and had lunch, bought a shot glass (Hard-Rock), went to Filene's basement, and then headed home. We got stuck in traffic that cost us shoe-shopping time and by the time we made it home, I was done with the car. Ordered pizza, played with fabric and watched some Project Runway.
I think my next project will be the Ann Klein dress with some fabric from Fabric Mart. I found some lining fabric at GS and the zipper, so I should be good to go. A Vogue pattern, and it's lined (a GOOD thing, I discovered yesterday when I made my skirt). Ready to do something other than a skirt, and I don't like my pants patterns. Well, maybe one: also a Vogue.... What am I thinking!?!
Kevin's car is totaled, now we have to settle w/ insurance and pick a new one and get it adapted. PITA!!
