This and that

I'm almost really finished with my Burda pants. Just lack finishing. HA! HA! What I really lack is top stitching the waist band, button holes, buttons and hemming. Anyone not count that as "ALMOST!?" Please raise your hand. Higher, I can't see you... They fit well, knew they would. A little puckering where the waist band attaches, but I may be able to press that into submission. The big news is I forgot the belt loops. Just plain forgot the darn things. So these have no belt loops and that's the way it is.

Paul Newman died this weekend. He was one of my favorites as a teen and I still love him. His salad dressing isn't half bad, either. As a kid/teen, my BFF & I would go to the movies every Saturday, and frequently Sunday. We lived in a small town and there wasn't much else to do. Movies were $0.75 until you were 12, then $1.50. Always, every theatre. Our parents took turns driving, the only time I ever saw Karen's dad - her mom was every darn field trip we ever went on, but her dad only appeared on Saturday afternoon movie runs. 2 theatres downtown - The Strand and The State. Nice old theatres with red carpet, sticky floors, salty popcorn and balconies. The best movies were viewed from the balcony - you had to sneak up there, usually it was "closed". Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, Silent Movie, Towering Inferno. All watched with a good friend and crinkled lips. I can still play the theme to The Sting on the piano. Thanks for the memories, Paul, rest in peace.

I finished the sleeve on the second jacket today. It was, literally, a bloody mess. Musta stuck myself HARD a dozen times and clipped my finger with the scissors. And one bad bang on the thumb with the set screw for the needle. **sigh** I only spent about $20 on this jacket at Target - it's grey corduroy, motorcycle jacket style. Not heavy for winter, so I needed it fixed for fall. I seriously cut 3" off the sleeves and they're still plenty long. So that brings my alterations tally to 2 jackets and 1 pants for the weekend. I still have one pair of pants to hem (they're kind of tricky - knit pants with a cuff. They may become knit pants with out a cuff) and the Burda pants to finish.

Played with my Zig-zager a little. FUN FUN FUN! No practical use, but since when does practicality enter into my sewing room? If practical use was a requirement, the shelves would be empty and I'd have 6 yards of grey wool laid out for a boring suit. Nope, this is way more fun. I may take a tip from Karen's aunt and edge the living heck out of some dish towels. Multi-colored, and variable stitches. FUN FUN FUN!
Well, my weekend's about over. Next week promises to be every bit as much fun as this past one was. But I'm off on Friday and it's my birthday, so there should be cake involved somewhere. That's a good thing.

  1. We're obviously of the same generation. I blogged about Paul Newman too. Sad.
