So far, so good with my son. He and my husband went to a couple of movies (Startrek and Angels and Demons) and we went out to dinner. He goes back to the hospital tomorrow for some more testing. Poor baby. I've been filling him up all weekend to get ready for 3 days of hospital food.
Since things were a little quieter and I didn't go to the theatre, I got some sewing done and took some photos.
First, here's my BWOF blouse finished and worn:
Someday, I promise, I will I wear shoes for a photo shoot. I do own them and wear them on a regular basis.

Now that's bad. And it's all wadded up in a corner, maybe to become panties?

I like all three quite a bit. The 2 browns are really my colors and the red/black/grey will be a nice lining or blouse. I got large pieces of all three, though I've been too lazy to actually unfold them and measure. They were part of a bundle.

I made this last fall from some taffeta with a border print. I think this fabric fits the skirt much better. This is the fabric I bought a few weeks ago on our trip to Waechter's Silk Shop . This is a pretty easy pattern,
And I know it fits well, so it's a quick go. I had some frustrating machine issues for a while. So, here is it finished:

I just thought it needed a little something. I would have rather used a dark purple thread for the scallops, but not bad enough to go shopping. I used a tearaway stabilizer and the scallop stitch on my machine - lengthened to the maximum I could. The picture on the right is the best representation of the colors. This is a 100% cotton batik. Very soft with a nice drape, pretty thin - not a heavy cotton at all. Wrinkles like your granny.
Whoa, you MADE those scallops?? I thought the fabric came like that at first. Wow. I've yet to figure out how to make the scallop stitch work on my machine, but I never tried it with stabilizer. They look wonderful on that skirt :-)
ReplyDeleteLove your BWOF blouse. So pretty. So is your skirt with awesome scalloped hem! As for your unfortunate neckline blouse--well, sure--it would make great panties!
ReplyDeleteBoy, you made good use of a couple of rainy days! I love what you did with the "skirt fabric." You seem to have gotten the hang of that new machine pretty darn quick. The BWOF blouse looks great. You should send those guys to the movies more often. K
ReplyDeleteThe scallops look great 'as is' and I don't think a darker purple would have worked as well. We went to see Star Trek on IMAX this weekend and it was FANTASTIC, and I'm not even a Star Trek Fan. BTW I like hospital food, as long as I don't have to cook it, I like it!
ReplyDeleteI love how the BWOF blouse looks on you! And who wears shoes inside the house anyway?
ReplyDeleteLove the skirt too, you are just rockin' with that new SM.
I had a similar knit neckline problem. Fact was, the needle or presser foot pressure or something did not play well with that particular knit, and I kept having to pull on it behind the needle or it all bunched up under the throatplate. Result was a very wonky neckline because I stretched it too much. Tossing it in the wash actually helped. Maybe you should just recklessly launder it with everything else before you toss it out ?
Your blouse, skirt, and black skirt (if you made it) are all TDF. But that knit neckline scares me away from making anything knit. Knits are just so unpredictable!!! Anyway, I love the scalloped hem ofthe purple cotton skirt. Quite creative.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad your son continues to improve. This has truly been so hard on all of you, but especially your darling son. I feel for you all.

I love your scalloped hem! I will ask for more detail on SG. I know I'm not going to be the only one who wants to know how to shamelessly copy this darling detail.
