Eh.

I cut out the Marlene pants on Sunday and started to sew them up. Bleck. I just hate them. I hate the wimpy milk chocolate sorta stretchy fabric that pulled when I cut it and gave me weird seam allowances and feels like something my granny would wear and is too heavy and stretchy for the pattern. I've barely started them and just can't make myself finish them. They've completely run me out of my sewing room, in fact. I think I'll have to put on rubber gloves and a mask and go in with a trash bag to free up the mojo in the room.

I wore my BWOF blouse on Monday and do REALLY like it. The sleeves are a bit tight when I reach forward, so I'll likely fix that before I make it again (soon). And will make the arm binding wider. Not sure what went wrong there, but I suspect the answer is in the same place as my quilt blocks.

And tomorrow I will (finally) trace out karent's Decade's of Style 1950's Collar Confection Blouse. I have some white and tiny black polka-dotted cotton to make this with. And now that I'm over my intense fear of buttonholes, I'm ready to try again. And I love the collar on this top. It's only 7 pieces, including facing for the sleeves. I just hope Karen understands that I failed map-folding and that the sheet won't come back like it came out. She bought this on our trip to Waechter's a few weeks ago. Of course, as always, I like someone else's stuff much better than my own (this may, MAY, explain some tears of Christmas's past - hmmm).

And work has just kicked my butt this week. Up one side and down the other and then when I was down. So this hasn't helped my sewing mojo. Just pooped when I got home. My son's coming for the weekend, so we'll do the DC thing on Friday (PLEASEEEEE stop raining) and Saturday (ditto).

So, there's my update, if you're still awake.

And a random pic off my 'puter. Of Aruba. Where it doesn't rain.

  1. So that is how you keep your mojo - rubber gloves preventing skin contact with erky fabric. I should have known. Thanks for the tip!

  2. Oooh, those pants sound scary. Don't let them touch my pattern, I haven't used it yet! It's raining here, too, inches and inches and inches. I may sew up a raft. K

  3. Too bad about the pant's fabric. It sounds like you have some great things lined up to get past the nasty stuff. Rain! Yep, it's been raining here too. Fortunately, I've been out west in the desert and didn't see most of it. Boy, could we ever tell by how much the grass had grown though!

  4. I love Decades of Style! I have several of their patterns and they always come together so nicely. The gals who run it are super nice too, so if you have any questions don't hesitate to drop them a line.

But you know what isn't nice....RAIN! I HATE YOU RAIN! Ahem.

  5. It sounds like those pants are a lost cause. Purge them! I am heading to Texas this weekend, but hopefully I will leave behind some sunshine in DC for you.

  6. Just ditch the pants so you don't have to look at them again. In the trash, covered up--gone! Then look foward to sewing a beautiful thing.
