Way off topic

This has nothing to do with sewing or even my life. So you can all breathe a big sigh of relief. But I saw this today on the Internet and just think it's sooo cool.

Codex Sinaiticus
Codex Sinaiticus is one of the
most important books in
the world. Handwritten well over 1600 years ago, the
manuscript contains the
Christian Bible in Greek, including the oldest
complete copy of the New
Testament. Its heavily corrected text is of
outstanding importance for the
history of the Bible and the manuscript – the
oldest substantial book to survive
Antiquity – is of supreme importance for
the history of the book

It was made public today by a group of antiquarians from (Mostly) Britain, Russia and Germany. You can read more about it here.
The entire text, as still exists, is now digitized and translated into English, Russian, German and (I think) modern Greek. The text is in Greek. You can do a request on a specific passage by Book, Chapter and Verse and get the image and a translation. It includes some texts that are not included in the modern Bible and some texts are missing.
I will warn you that the web site has seen a lot of traffic today and is very image heavy (duh..) so it's a little on the slow side. But sooo fascinating. Enjoy.

I'm not a very religious person, but I am an avid historian and I just think this is awesome. In the true meaning of the word.

  2. By the way, I'm off topic at least half the time! A blog is for expressing yourself however you feel like, isn't it?
