Where I'm coming from....
I have had a lot of problems with my blog not loading. It gets started and then just stalls out. It will eventually load, but takes 10-15 minutes sometimes. And I can't just shut it down, I have to CNTL/ALT/DELETE and then it closes all my Explorer windows. Major PITA. I've wondered if it was my wallpaper. I like it, but if it's causing the problems I can live without it. Or I've added some larger photo's lately, so maybe I need to go back to smaller ones. But I'm having other performance problems, the kind that Viagra won't fix. Like my email running slow and delays with other programs openning/closing. So I'm suspecting it's just me and I'm going to have to break down and call the "help desk". Pray for me, and if I don't come back know that talking to the "Help" desk really WILL kill you.

Are you using a standard blogspot template?
ReplyDeleteSo, warning, I'm a total web nerd, but here's some stuff that might help. I have a firefox add on called "Y Slow" that's a very useful (and free, yay) way to get a very quick analysis of performance problems on a webpage. Here's what it says about your blog:
* the number of files your page loads is pretty high.
* This page has 21 external JavaScript files.
* This page has 6 external StyleSheets.
* This page has 24 CSS background images.
* all of these images/JS files don't have an expires header, so someone viewing the blog has to fetch them individually with each page load. the bulk of them are the blog type icon by the blogs in your blogroll. you could remove the icons, or save a copy of each type locally, and use that local copy in the widget.
* some of the files included in your widgets are doing redirects that slow down loading the page:

That said, I don't think that your blog is *that* slow to load. It could slow down occasionally if one of the external widgets you're loading is slow to display, so you might want to keep an eye on them and see if one in particular is always slow to come up.
