(Dis)Organization and some quilting

A little slower than I'd planned, but here are some pictures of my organizational fit (a.k.a. Income Tax avoidance) from Sunday. See my nicely labeled box o'feet? I even have spaces for ones that I intend to purchase or have ordered and not received. Frankly this level of organization scares me a little. But I've really enjoyed being able to quickly pull out and put back whichever one I want. I'm not wild about the storage area on my machine being behind the machine, and I had more feet than it has spaces, so it works quite well. In fact, the pretty box scares me more than this:My sewing room this morning with stuff falling everywhere. See the black and white fabric on the Singer stool? That goes with the pattern pieces on the green mat that goes with the small wad behind my machine of a pair of knickers that may not make it. Having FITS over the elastic. I've seen elastic do things on this machine I didn't know it could do.

I've been making some real progress with my quilt, though. Here are all the strips cut and ready to piece.

I put 2 blocks together and laid them out to see how it would look. (on the ironing board - that's why the lower left corner droops)

Here are the rest of the strips sewn into half-blocks. I only over ran one square and had to take it apart and put it together the right way. Now the bad news. And I don't know WHY!?! The squares aren't lining up. I've checked (I swear!) my raw pieces and my stitches and they're all the right size. But when I put them together I get this:Look where the 2 squares are sewn together. This was every time. I really don't get it. I will finish piecing and then square them all up to the same size. But WTF?

And, because I just thought it looked kind of neat:

I'm off for a little (as possible) family time in my hometown and a weekend with a friend. And I won't be sewing (probably) but I may be shopping... Stay tuned for "THE HAUL" It's likely to be pretty awesome.

All bogged down.

I've been sick for a week, terrible chest cold that just won't budge. No voice on Friday or Saturday, just couldn't force air thru my vocal cords. Now it's settled down into my chest for a nice smoker's cough.
I realized (and YES, I KNOW it the last freekin' minute) that I'm missing a peice of info for my taxes, so I'll have to file an extention and still right a check for a small fortune.
I filed Dad's today for Fed and State, he owed $86 to state. Gets back a chunk from Fed. I don't have what I need to do the Trust, so we have to file an extention AND write a letter to the IRS about why the Trust didn't owe a return from 1995. At least the estate isn't due until July.
Spent way too long dinking around with the neckline on my dress. Just struggle with the V-neck thing. Looks ok, not great. Then I quit because I just keep coughing and having to stop.
Still interviewing at work, we lost a job to an in-company competitor (don't ask), screwing around with the bid for the big job we don't hold a bat's chance of getting.
We're still negotiating on the house deal, I think it will go thru, but I'm feeling really stalled out. They want to close quickly, then, and W's going to be out of town for most of that period. Makes it hard to plan.
I'm tired, going to soak in the tub and have a glass of wine and a cold pill.
Getting very close to finishing my skirt and top. I just have to hem the skirt and put the hook/eye on it. And face/hem the top. I need a trip to my local Hancock, though, as I don't have enough fashion fabric to make my facings. I knew that, I opted for 2 pieces rather than facing on the bias. I may want to use the binding as edging to dress it up a tad. I won't have time tomorrow to go during lunch, but maybe Friday.
Been interviewing at work. Took the train to Columbia and interviewed for LiveWire Cost Analyst. I think we'll make an offer to Aaron & I may be D..... into Arlington for an interview for BM or for Janice's position. I have another candidate for BM coming in tomorrow from Boise. (that's why no Hancock's at lunch, we'll feed David).
K shipped a box of stuff to us on Monday, it should arrive soon and perhaps I can get started on the Wizard suit revamp this weekend. I do HAVE to finish taxes. Why wait til the last minute, eh? It's just painful this year!
Stopped at the mall at Union Station on my way back thru, picked up a couple of items. I found high waisted pants!!! YEA! I am soooo glad to have my waist bank back again. Now, make my pants to the ankle and sleeves to my wrist. Give me back my entire garment. I also stopped at the drycleaners and left her my jacket to hem the sleeves on. It was really nice out, so I just left it there on my way home, LOL.

Still kicking

It's been a while since I've posted, I've been busy and discouraged. The Vogue dress is terrible. A complete wadder. I saved it to reuse the fabric, maybe for a tee-shirt, but the dress is total crap. Looks like a poor relation of a twenty's flapper dress or the Walton's gone awry. Next I tried a shirt to work with my blue suit, but the back is too tight and I messed up the hem. I may try to take out the sleeves (and they look so nice) and just face them to have a shell. Oh well. If removing the sleeves doesn't help, then it's to the lining bin for this.

In the meantime I took a trip to Vegas, found an apartment, and collect a pathetic $4K from my cousins. Also started my taxes, it doesn't look good. We stayed at the Paris in Vegas, it was nice. Great to be at that end of the strip, very convenient. We've always stayed down MGM/Luxor way before and that's a hike up to shopping, etc. Now its time to get ready to move. On the 15th, and Warren's in Guam until the 13th. I'm going to Little Rock on Wednesday and the AirForce Ball on Saturday. Maybe find some cool stuff at the silent auction. Looking for some silk, maybe or a cool piece of furniture. I'll have a sewing room when we move, looking forward to that, will move the ironing board in there, out of my bedroom, and speed up the sewing without all the running up and down the stairs. Bought furniture a couple of weeks ago. Sure hope it gets delivered on time. It has the potential to really suck if it doesn't. We're going to Ikea next Friday and get some stuff and put it on the truck and just leave it there until Saturday.
