Last Wednesday, my son's best friend from high school died. The immediate cause of death was a drug overdose, and there is speculation that it may have been on purpose. Dan struggled with drug abuse for years, dating back to high school. This was a kid from the suburbs, his brother went to Harvard on a football scholarship. Dan could have done the same, but he took a different path.
When my son had his accident, Dan was there. He drove to Indy twice to see him, and he was only 17. Visited him daily when he transfered home. Picked him up when he fell out of his chair and carried him into friend's houses.
Dan, Rest in Peace. Thank you for being there for Kevin and we pray you've found peace now.

A post about nothing

Nothing going on. I was out of town all week, still sick, so no sewing. We looked at apartments all weekend, so no sewing. Best I did was re-hem some jeans that I paid to have hemmed. Then I washed them (yeah, wrong order there....) and they must have strunk 3 inches! I looked like a little old lady. Add to the short length the wrong hem job he did, the hem should be 1/2 inch from the bottom, he had it about 3/4+, it just looked wrong and granny. Of course now there are fade marks, but they may wash out after a couple of washings. And yes, I learned my lesson: wash first, hem second. And, from now on, I'll just do the hem myself.
I'm wearing my plaid skirt today. Maybe I can get a photo tonight. It's tough with no assistant and no mirror. Maybe if I stand on the bed.
Karen's coming on Thursday, we're going to talk, drink wine, shop, eat Italian, and catch up. Looking forward to it! I'll fix up the bed tonight and maybe even vacuum. Warren's going to Detroit for the weekend.
Kevin totaled his car last week. I got the phone call from the hospital. My heart stopped. He's okay, sore and cut some. Car, not so good. They'll actually let us know tomorrow if there will be an attempt at repair or total. If totaled, maybe Warren & Kevin can get him started on a replacement this weekend. Good thing he got those portable controls, eh? Initial reports are that he rear-ended someone, but there are also comments that he may have been hit from someone changing lanes that didn't stick around. It was on the interstate, leaving would be easy.
