I'm at my son's apartment for the weekend so there will be no sewing.
The best I did was go to Sears to buy presser feet, and find out they had none. In fact their entire sewing machine area was 2 dusty shelves of low end (nothing over $300) and one package of bobbins. In other Sears news, all their clothes were 60% off and there was no secret why. Unless you're 60 years old with very little taste and short - picture everything petite with glitter and overstretched knits. And the pharmacy was closed for lunch (they don't have 2 employees so they can hand you a package of Sudephed? Another rant why this is behind the counter). Got so distracted I forgot the box of Kleenex.
And my usual trek to Salvation Army. I think I've about cleaned them out of notions. I always buy up their bindings and zippers. The price is right and I've amassed a nice stash that comes in handy. They had a super-cute little White treadle. No photo, I regret this. It's really nice. It appears in very good condition. Mounted in a still nice cabinet. It worked when I hand turned the wheel, I know it needs a new belt. But it was really well kept, no rust or dirt. The cabinet still had the "WHITE" logo on it. No price - it didn't matter, I'm not buying. And 2 bobbins still in one of the drawers.
Well, now it's time to do what I usually do at his place - laundry and clean. And an added bonus - he tried to wash is comforter in the appt. washer. It didn't fit, but he didn't know until he'd gotten it wet. Got to haul that thing to the laundry mat and clean that mess up. It's a mess, seriously.
Edited to add that, as it turns out, his dryer isn't working at all. It heats, but doesn't vent. So I had all his laudry to do at the laundrymat. Including the half moldy comforter, one load of hot wet clothes, one load of cold wet clothes and about 4 loads of still dry dirty clothes. I just rewashed everything. Of course it's about 15 degrees and windy, so dragging that stuff around was not fun. I stopped by the apartment office on my way out and complained about the dryer (and the ever-run toilet). Yep, gave 'em a piece of my mind. Not sure I had it to spare, could be trouble in the end. Took about 3 hours. Now we're going to watch a movie and take a nap. Yes, at the same time.
Karen: I'll send you an email in a bit. About what was expected.
I was going to email and see how things were. How'd it go? K
ReplyDeleteUgh. I had the same thing happen with a comforter of mine. I guess I was hoping that it would compress when it got wet. It didn't. What a pain... good luck!
ReplyDeleteBeeBee , glad you posted this about the comforter, I was just thinking of trying one in my washer,But, was having doubts about it even getting wet, it was so thick. So now I will just go to the laundry mat. I have about gotten ride of comforters and started using quilts, except for my down comforter ,which really feels great in this weather we are having here in the mountians of Va..
ReplyDeleteThe only good thing about a laundromat is - if you time it right - you can get all the laundry done at once. It is a major PITA to take wet laundry there though.
ReplyDeleteI think our down comforter fits in our washing machine, but we have a big one. Washing machine, that is ;)
