Thanks to a link from
PR for a marking tool, I have found both a new obsession and a name for my first quilt:
Bargello. I'd never heard the word before (okay, I still haven't, but I've read it now) but that's what I did on quilt #1:

A very simple example, but an example none-the-less.
Bargello is a type of needlepoint embroidery consisting of upright flat stitches laid in a mathematical pattern to create motifs. The name originates from a series of chairs found in the Bargello palace in Florence, which have a "flame stitch" pattern. My link surfed me to
here , Clotilde's website. And I saw this:

Using squares of fabric rather than squares of stitches. The pattern for this little number is $13US. How much for the 15 fabrics? Hmmm? But I'm in lust. I can't help it. Part of my hesitation with quilting is the "Countryness" of it all. And I'm just not a country girl. Nothing wrong with country, it just isn't me. But I think this is "off the hook", the "Cat's meow" (or was it Pajamas?), groovy, and way cool. There's also a pattern for this:

Does it take more or less than 15 fabrics? Who cares? Anyway the pattern is $4 less, so there a start on fabric purchases. Or perhaps to
Amazon for a less expensive book than that link.
Like these.I'm very intrigued and you can count on seeing one of these in the not-too-distant future. I can hear winter galloping up on us now. And winter, as everyone knows, is quilting season. And wool pants season.
Or maybe this:

Not Bargello, but really nice, IMHO. Maybe in reds or golds?
(All quilt photos - except mine on top - are compliments of
Clotilde who can expect some revenue from me in the near future.)
In other news, have you read
Julie and Julia?

I just finished this, haven't seen the movie. Anyway, I LOVED this. Funny as hell, and just a great read. Nothing edifying, just highly enjoyable. I give it 2 thumbs up. Oh, and the
blog is still around if you want more.
And my BWOF dress is HUGE on top. I need to take of the neck facing and take in about 2 inches on each shoulder. That's why no pics or reviews yet. **sigh** I'm off on Friday, so maybe I can get it finished up then.
Beebee I LOVE the bargello quilt patterns but the blue & green one at the bottom is really intriguing! I doubt I will ever quilt though - my Christmas tree skirt quilting project is in its 5th year now ...
ReplyDeleteJust for the record, those Bargello Quilts are a new concept to me. And I LOVE, LOVE them.
